- Past Work -
For some time, Kurita designed architecture and did administrative work. Using a creative division he formed at his last work place as a starting point, he has leapt toward a path of creativity.
- Current Pieces -
The first piece Kurita showed me was a series of paintings made with Japanese rice paper and black ink. The darkness of the ink and white of rice paper created a variation in contrast that was astounding to the eye. The presence of a small red stamp of the artist’s name complemented the piece subtly.
The next series presented to me was completely different than the first. The large, colorful and strong pieces were beautifully crafted, pulling in the viewer with their innate charm.
Brush paintings, illustrations, and computer graphics; these are each different mediums, but they all have one thing in common: The viewers often imagine different things while viewing them. There is a unique atmosphere about them that makes each piece seem part of a whole, as if they were just a glimpse of something larger.
- Balance of Work -
Generally, people known as creators don’t often make money at what they want to do. Yet Kurita has been fortunate enough to follow his passion and make a living by doing so. He says he feels blessed that he is able to live off of something he loves to do.
- Goals For The Future -
Kurita is opening an exhibition in Yokohama this fall, and says he’d like to make it a success. He also plans to open an exhibition on the West Coast of the US and would like to do so by the end of this year. He has plenty of artwork, and believes the important thing is to first show it to the world. Also, as he is slightly color blind, he has always wished to publish a book for the color blind. His wish will be granted, as he will publish by the beginning of November.
We can expect to see Kurita expand his work to a more global scale.
