Kuriki returns to base camp.

May 18th, 14:00 Nepal time (17:15 Japan time)
Solo Alpinist Nobukazu Kuriki ascended the seventh highest peak in the world located in the Himalayas. Called Dhaulagiri, Kuriki reached the summit of 8,167 meters without oxygen, and without the protection of any fellow alpinists. He returned to base camp at 14:20 Nepal time (17:35 Japan time) the following day.
Blessed by good weather, he had only a small accident climbing down that gave him a scratch on his face.
He is the second Japanese person to complete such a feat.

The Brocken spectre casts a circle around the sun while descending Dhaulagiri. It seems the gods of the mountain were watching over Kuriki.

The ascent to the peak of Dhaulagiri was part of Kuriki's training to prepare for his ascent of Mt. Everest for the last stop of his challenge of climbing every highest peak of the seven continents of the world solo with no oxygen.
He has successfully climbed Mt. McKinley in North America, Mt. Aconcagua in South America, Mt. Elbrus in Europe, Mt. Kilimanjaro in Africa, the Carstensz Pyramid in Oceania, and Vinson Massif in Antarctica.

If he succeeds, he will be the first Japanese person to ever climb all of the highest peaks of the seven continents of the world.
