Overseas screenings of films nominated at Sapporo Short Fest (SSF) began under the title “Sapporo Short Fest World Tour”. The California Independent Film Festival (CIFF) in Livermore, California became the first venue. This year the festival screened several SSF2008 films and took place from April 16th to April 20th.
The words “Sapporo Shorts” appeared outside the theater.
SSF’s connection with CIFF began when Sappro director Eiji Shimada entered his film “6pm” and won an award for Best Mini Short. Since then, CIFF has been a valuable ally to SFF, exchanging many of their best films. The Sapporo Short program at CIFF has been a continuing success. The Grandpris winner of SSF2008 and the 2009 Academy Awards Nominee, “Auf der Strecke”(On The Line) directed by Reto Caffi, stood out from the crowd.
